Edmonton musician Shawn Pinchbeck will play his first local concert, after a year of pursuing a master’s degree in music in England, when he headlines the BEAMS Sonic Extravaganza at the Citadel Tucker Amphitheatre. The show, part of The Works Art & Design Festival, will also feature computer artist Philip Jagger and The Condoleezza Rice Paddies (a duet between musician Bill Damur and experimentalist Gene Kosowan).

A musician who blends avant-garde nuances with soundscape disciplines, Pinchbeck’s compositions take listeners into multidimensional experiences. His live shows have incorporated multimedia elements, computer interactivity and multichannel sound systems. Pinchbeck also had an audio installation, Sonic Spaces, showcased at The Works in 2003.

Self-taught as a musician, Pinchbeck has released several independent recordings including a full-length CD, Resonance, which he recorded with flautist Marion Garver in 1995. He was also an artist in residence at the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta in Edmonton and the Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music in Amsterdam in 2000. Pinchbeck has also performed across Canada and Europe and was faculty advisor to Masters of Multimedia students at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2001.
